Brna developed in the 19th century, as a port for the export of Smokvica wine to other ports in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean; in recent times, economy has been more based on tourism. Apart from accommodation facilities, tourists are also offered delicious fish specialties in the village restaurants close to the sea, as well as excellent wines (Posip, Rukatac) from Smokvica.

The Istruga cove, close to Brna, is full of mud having healing properties, which is often used by the local population; organized therapies have not been provided yet.

BRNA, a cove, small harbor and hamlet on the southern coast of the island of Korcula, 4 km southwest of Smokvice; a pier for the village of Smokvice. The cove is divided in two parts by the Mali Zaglav peninsula; the eastern part comprises the hamlet and a small harbor. The coast is very steep from the hamlet of Prizba in the west to the hamlet of Zavalatica in the east. Smaller coves are partly sandy, covered with underbrush and pine woods. In front of the coast between Brna in the east and Prizba in the west are several smaller islands: Vrhovnjak, Crklica, Stupa, Otocac and Sridnjak.
